چکیده

Nonlinear adaptive ltering has witnessed an explosion of interest in recent years. This progress report describes the achievements to date of the EPSRC funded research program to investigate orthonormal functions for nonlinear signal processing. The report introduces a structure based upon the multi{dimensional Fourier series which can be applied to nonlinear system identi-cation, channel equalisation and time series prediction problems. The orthonormal properties of the basis functions means that their individual contribution to the estimation to be computed directly, and hence avoids the need for computationally complex matrix algebra in forming other parsimonious models. The report introduces the orthonormal ltering structure and highlights the speciic achievements thus far. A nonlinear system identiication example is included to demonstrate the operation of the ltering structure.

Limits of Deterministic Compressed Sensing Considering Arbitrary Orthonormal Basis for Sparsity

It is previously shown that proper random linear samples of a finite discrete signal (vector) which has a sparse representation in an orthonormal basis make it possible (with probability 1) to recover the original signal. Moreover, the choice of the linear samples does not depend on the sparsity domain. In this paper, we will show that the replacement of random linear samples with deterministic...

Estimation of the instantaneous amplitude and frequency of non-stationary short-time signals

We consider the modeling of non-stationary discrete signals whose amplitude and frequency are assumed to be nonlinearly modulated over very short-time duration. We investigate the case where both instantaneous amplitude and frequency can be approximated by orthonormal polynomials. Previous works dealing with polynomial approximations refer to orthonormal bases built from a discretization of con...

Filters Parametrized by Orthonormal Basis Functions for Active Noise Control

Parametrization of filters on the basis of orthonormal basis functions have been widely used in system identification and adaptive signal processing. The main advantage of using orthonormal basis functions for a filter parametrization lies in the possibility of incorporating prior knowledge of the system dynamics into the identification process and adaptive signal process. As a result, a more a...

Ridge Functions and Orthonormal Ridgelets

Orthonormal ridgelets are a specialized set of angularly-integrated ridge functions which make up an orthonormal basis for L2(R). In this paper we explore the relationship between orthonormal ridgelets and true ridge functions r(x1 cos θ + x2 sin θ). We derive a formula giving the ridgelet coefficients of a ridge function in terms of the 1-D wavelet coefficients of the ridge profile r(t), and w...

Sampling and Frequency Warping

Optimal sampling of non band-limited functions is an issue of great importance that has attracted considerable attention. We propose to tackle this problem through the use of a frequency warping: First, by a non-linear shrinking of frequencies, the function is transformed into a band-limited one. One may then perform a decomposition in Fourier series. This process gives rise to new orthonormal ...
